No, as stated in our Hosting Principles, hosting organizations cannot charge Experteers, and in fact, we encourage you to provide local benefits - this is because our Experteers are skilled professionals and they provide immense value . While charging is common for ‘voluntourism’ projects, our platform does not allow pay-to-volunteer opportunities. This is because we place professionals in specific skills-based projects where they are normally fully immersed (working full time), and our idea is that the value of their work outweighs a program fee. MovingWorlds only supports this kind of Experteering rather than Voluntourism, and there is a clear difference between the two.
Our goal is to foster a mutually beneficial partnership for both the professional providing their services and for the organization hosting them. For this reason we suggest that every Experteering opportunity provide some attractive local benefits, such as free accommodation and food, a travel stipend, language and/or cooking lessons, use of amenities… just to name a few.
