What's different about a custom project?

The main difference is that custom projects are scoped after you've been introduced, during the discovery call. Here's a breakdown of standard vs. custom projects:

  1. With standard projects, you first find an interesting project, then request an introduction to the organization that posted it. The organization representative will have outlined the desired scope and deliverables in advance as part of the project submission process.
  1. With custom projects, you first find an interesting organization, then co-create a project to work on together. This will happen during the discovery call, where you discuss the overlap between your skills and the organization’s business needs to decide on the project scope and deliverables.

Once the match is confirmed, the rest of the process is the same: we'll ask you for project start and end dates, guide you through the planning process, and check in regularly to ensure you're having a successful engagement together.
